CAIRO/EGYPT, October 7, 2009: The Egyptian Tourism Federation, represented by director general Ayman Altaranissi, was elected Vice-President on the UNWTO Board of Affiliate Members for the biannual period of 2009-2011.
The announcement came during the 18th Session of the UNWTO General Assembly gathering in Astana, Kazakhstan earlier today. The Federation has been appointed Vice-Chairman for consecutive terms since 1999 to-date. However, this year’s election was tougher than previous years because the number of organizations nominated had increased and the number of seats remains limited to only 24 places for more than 360 affiliate members representing 112 countries.
Speaking of the elections, Chairman Ahmed El Nahas expresses “it is with great pride that Ayman is representing the Federation. He was in the business for many years before applying his extensive experience to his position as director general at the ETF, and I am confident that his active participation will contribute to the mission of the UNWTO”.
The Federation is the only organization in the Middle East and Africa to have a place on the board and Altaranissi will be representing both regions for the coming term.
