Establishment of Bus Driver Training Center (?29 ??????, ?2009)

Wednesday April 29, 2009, Cairo, Egypt: The initiative to begin a project to develop a Bus Driver Training Center in Cairo, Egypt, in line with the highest of international standards, will be realized by the signing ceremony between the Egyptian Tourism Federation (ETF) and Test and Training International (TTI) – Planning and Service GmbH, a specialized center based in Austria and subsidiary to the Austrian Automobile Motorcycle and Touring Club (Der Österreichische Automobil, Motorrad und Touring Club – ÖAMTC). The signing ceremony took place Monday, April 27, 2009, at 8:30 pm at the Salon Eugenie, Cairo Marriott Hotel. The ceremony was attended by H.E. Zoheir Garranah, Minister of Tourism and H.E. Thomas Nader, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria and many prominent guests from the tourism industry.

The decision to implement the project was taken by the Ministry of Tourism’s Accidents Prevention Committee in July 2006, under the patronage of H.E. Zoheir Garranah. The Minister accordingly instructed the ETF to begin research and manage the establishment of a Bus Driver Training Center. In accordance, the board of trustees, chaired by former Minister of Transportation and professor at the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University, Dr. Essam Sharaf, began scheduled field visits to several reputable European consulting and management companies in order to select the right company for Egypt. Subsequently, talks have developed with TTI and a delegate executive team was assigned to the Egypt project. Having prepared a consultative study for the project, the executive team met with the Bus Driver Training Center board at the ETF headquarters to discuss potential cooperation methods along with discussions of options and possibilities, they also visited the location of the future center – 80 acres of land located in 15 May City, granted by H.E. Ahmed El Maghraby, Minister of Housing.

Following the productive discussions on plans and requirements for the project, the board of trustees and members of TTI met with Minister Garranah for review of planned ideas and endorsement of the project. The Minister expressed enthusiasm for the venture, describing it as a pioneer in the field of tourism transportation.

Since then, finer planning details have been developed and a mutual agreement for the vision of the Bus Driver Training Center finalized with a contract drafted between the ETF and TTI, which will translate the much deliberated plans into action.

The objective of the center is to upgrade the skill standards and performance of tourism bus drivers up to the highest international standards and provide the required knowledge and skills essential for safe driving under any weather conditions and road types.

It also aims to develop standards of safe driving for drivers currently working in the sector and train new drivers and supply them with the proper knowledge and skills essential for safe driving under any conditions and road types.

The target for the first year in operation will be 15,000 trainees and the number of trainees is expected to be raised to 35,000 annually thereafter.
